Unexpected Wealth During Inheritance

We have all experienced significant financial hardship over the past few years. Many people have had to take out of their savings and make financial sacrifices due to COVID-19 and the cost of living problem. Here, we examine certain items that might be worth more than you realise and suggest that you may have considerable wealth.

Undiscovered Financial Treasures

When you worked in the city in 2010, did you make any pension contributions? When you moved banks for a lower interest rate, did you also take out a life insurance policy? Perhaps you had a savings account before the child was born, but life intervened, and you haven’t used it since? When calculating your net worth, start by reviewing each item. It’s okay that you don’t own a property or have any sizable investments. You still may have money in other pots despite this.

Many people pass away without knowing they have lost valuables because their loved ones were unaware of their existence. Creating a will binds everything. No matter how tiny you believe your financial assets to be, list them so your loved ones can access them after your passing.

Forgotten Toys, Vintage Iteams and Family Memories

Technology should be included in your will because it is valuable. Examples include smart gadgets, audio and stereo equipment, consoles, etc. But what about those nostalgic or vintage pieces? Family heirlooms and collectables are frequently appreciated because they are rare or appeal to nostalgia. It makes sense to wish to pass down family jewels to future generations. It must be included in your will, along with any collections and antiques like records, stamps, magazine editions, and even figurines.

The following items have unexpectedly higher values than you may expect:

Vintage toys –  Furbys, Barbies, Sylvanians, etc. Eighties and nineties toys are in high demand and can command a high price when sold.

Retro consoles and games – Do you recall the Mega Drive? Even though they have been replicated, the original consoles are still in high demand. Certain games draw much attention; the same is true of other 90s titles and systems.

Vintage clothing – Fashion goes around in cycles of approximately 25 years. Fashion from the 1970s and 1990s is returning to the market right now. Original vintage goods can fetch a high price on retro websites.

Cards and Stickers – It is worthwhile to have any uncommon collectable cards or stickers appraised if you own any.
